So Hillary Clinton Apparently Just Showed Up Unannounced to a Beyoncé Video Shoot

According to Us Weekly, divisive Democratic front-runner and noted grown woman Hillary Clinton surprised the other most powerful woman in the world who's not Oprah, Beyoncé, on a video shoot last Thursday.

So many questions, so many reactions:

A. Bey's shooting a new video—or more likely, new videos—for an upcoming album probably dropping in April. Get ready to be snatched bald again, internet.

B. We demand the release of the top-secret emails that no doubt were exchanged between the two women's camps. Just for fun.

C. Hillary Clinton is a Beyoncé stan and wishes she had her near universal approval rating.

"I want to be as good a president as Beyonce is a performer," Clinton said back in December. "You see her on TV, it's impressive; you see her in person, you're just stunned. Thinking like, ‘How does she do that?’ Really. I mean, she's singing, she's up and she's down. She's just amazing."

Basically.

So was Hillz just trying to lock down a possible Beydorsement? Or was she just there for a cameo? Knowing the Notorious HRC, we wouldn't be surprised if it was a bit of both. We also wouldn't be surprised if Bernie Sanders busted out the "Single Ladies" dance at his next speaking engagement. Feel the Bey!

Whatever your opinion of Broad City this season, Ilana Glazer and Abbi Jacobson have been gifting us with a lot of great moments: Whoopi! Hillary! Papa Tony Danza (#westillwould)! And now: naked Blake Griffin.

When Ilana and Abbi B&B-NYC (Airbnb) their apartments, they wind up in two very different positions—though both sexual. Abbi finally gets to bang her hot kinda-douchey, kinda-sweet personal trainer co-worker:

And Ilana gets into some naked chicanery with the 27-year-old, 6'10 baller. But being 6'10, the comparatively lilliputian Ilana has some, er, reservations.

A statement at which any number of gay men I've met would openly scoff—but Ilana, ever the sport, devises some creative ways for her and Blake to get their respective rocks off.

They really put the "play" in forepaly...

While taking the "flagrant" out of in flagrante delicto. But, hey, to each their own and those rocks were gotten.

Bazinga indeed. And another stamp in Ilana's sexual passport:

American Eagle's #Aerieman Campaign Was Super Awkward April Fool's Joke

We knew something was a bit off with those American Eagle #Aerieman videos—something, namely Devon's bouncing canni-bulge:

aerieman

Well, turns out the campaign and those weird videos were all just one, awkward April Fool's joke.

aerieman

According to a press release:

American Eagle Outfitters proves once again they're not afraid to take a risk and have a laugh in support of a good cause. Following the successes of the Skinny Skinny Jean in 2013 and American Beagle Outfitters in 2014, the brand reveals today its #AerieMAN campaign, featuring a mix of quirky characters of different sizes and personalities sharing "real life" stories in their skivvies, was all in good fun to parody the #AerieReal campaign by Aerie, a leader in body-positive marketing.

Ugh, April 1 is the worst. But anyway, American Eagle balanced their skivvy schtick with a $25,000 donation to the National Eating Disorders Association, as well as a commitment to forego retouching its male models in the brand's underwear and swimwear images, beginning this holiday season.

"We aren't afraid of being bold in how we engage our customers, whether through a video that makes you think twice, or challenging the norm in how a brand markets to men," American Eagle's global brand president Chad Kessler said in the release. "We are an all-inclusive brand and we know our male customers respond to humor. We look forward to continuing to innovate and evolve the American Eagle Outfitters product offerings."

Well, good for you American Eagle, but who's going to make amends for this?

Watch: Andy Cohen Reads the Atlanta Housewives on Their Casual Homophobia

PopnographyTelevisionAndy CohenBravohomophobiarhoa reunionLes Fabian Brathwaite

Based purely on the number of catchphrases per minute, The Real Housewives of Atlanta has always been my favorite of the franchise—though I still contend nothing tops Jersey's first season finale, you prostitution whores. But the Atlanta Housewives, as fabulous as they are, are more problematic than the other Housewives, at least when it comes to their "gays."

Related | Andy Cohen To The Real Housewives: Cut Out the 'My Gays' Crap

Happy to snap their fingers, roll their necks, read to filth, and borrow liberally from the gay community—of course, gay men have been borrowing liberally and often from black ladies since time immemorial as nature's purest and greatest form of symbiosis—the ladies of Atlanta remind me of the girls I grew up with on the playground.

You could be their friend, play jump rope with them, and they might even stand up for you against the bullies, but they're also the first ones to call you a sissy or a faggot. We'll get into the reasons behind that later, but last night on part three (!!!) of The Real Housewives of Atlanta reunion, Andy Cohen finally addressed this casual homophobia.

This season, noted pot-stirrer Kenya Moore insinuated that Kim Field's husband Chris was a little light in the loafers and that he was better known around Hollywood as "Chrissy"—and she's not talking Three's Company.

When Andy broached the subject on the reunion, Moore and the other ladies continued to speculate about Chris's sexuality and things quickly got super awkward. Moore, in typical twirling fashion, refused to back down or apologize, and talk turned more homophobic as Andy got more and more visibly uncomfortable.

rhoa reunion andy cohen

You can almost see him questioning his life choices up to this point.

And it was uncomfortable to watch (almost as uncomfortable as Porsha's "tuck" comment from part two) as the women put Chris's masculinity on trial—but therein lies the problem. It's not that the Atlanta Housewives are actually homophobic, or even meant any harm by their comments, but rather, we're seeing how masculinity is perceived in the black community.

Related | Eating the Booty Like Groceries: Hip-Hop, Assplay and the Cult of Masculinity

Black women—by nature and, y'know, history— are very protective of black men being emasculated. So much so that they often end up doing the emasculation. I, a naturally weepy child, was told so often that boys don't cry that I more or less shut down emotionally until well into adulthood.

This emphasis on masculinity in turn leads black men to overcompensate—witness how Kandi "No Scrubs" Burruss's husband Todd reacts to Phaedra's gay rumors comment:

rhoa reunion gif

You woulda thought someone whipped out a dildo and slapped him across the face with it. Luckily, a clearly fed-up Andy called them out on their behavior.

He then wisely gave Chris the last word on the whole situation:

Good for you, Chris! And good for you, Regine Hunter Kim Fields for finding a husband secure in his masculinity, for finally waking up after being prodded to death by Kenya all season, and for generally winning this reunion. Well, you and Nene's jumpsuit.

James Dixon Pleads Guilty In Murder of Islan Nettles

News & Opinionhate crimeislan nettlesLes Fabian Brathwaite

James Dixon, 25, took a plea deal on the eve of his manslaughter trial in the death of Islan Nettles, a 21-year-old trans woman Dixon viciously attacked on the evening of August 17, 2013.

Nettles was hospitalized as the result of the attack, and was taken off life support less than a week later.

Related | Who Cares About Islan Nettles?

Dixon had originally rejected the plea deal, offered by the Manhattan Supreme Court on March 17, but last week Judge Daniel Convsier informed Dixon that a confession he made to police in 2013 would be admissible in court.

In the taped statement, Dixon claims his manhood was threatened when he realized Nettles, with whom he was flirting, was not a cisgender woman, following a streak of similar encounters.

From the New York Daily News:

Dixon finally admitted that "yes" he was trying to seduce Nettles until one of pals called out, "That's a man!"

Dixon said he had just been tricked days before by other women and had been "clowned" by his pals as a result. He agreed that he felt his "manhood" was threatened by his streak of unknowingly hitting on gals who were born men.

"I just didn't want to be fooled," he said, during the hour-long recording in which he was at times evasive but spoke matter-of-factly.

Dixon told cops he lost his cool and beat Nettles in a "blind fury" but he didn't know the extent of Nettles's injuries until he heard gossip about the attack around his neighborhood. Dixon faced five to 25 years in prison for manslaughter, but with the plea deal he's expected to serve 12 years.

Related | Justice for Mark Carson: Elliot Morales Convicted of Hate Crime Murder

The death of Islan Nettles perfectly illustrates the danger faced by transgender women of color, a particularly vulnerable population disproportionately targeted by violence. Nettles was one of 22 trans women murdered in 2015 the largest number on record. The majority of these women (19) were trans women of color. According to the National Coalition of Anti-Violence Programs, trans women of color made up 67% of all hate violence homicides. Trans women of color are also six times more likely to experience physical violence from the police.

That Dixon was not automatically charged with a hate crime—which carries a harsher penalty—despite citing Nettles's gender identity as the motive for his attack, is indicative of the way our justice system treats trans victims of violence. Most states don't have hate crime laws that cover gender identity, and even with a federal hate crime law, anti-trans violence rarely gets reported as a hate crime. And of the 53 trans murders reported between 2013 and 2015, not one was prosecuted as a hate crime.

So for Islan Nettles, Keisha Jenkins, India Clarke, and the far-too-many other transgender women of color who paid the ultimate price for someone else's ignorance, there can be no justice until our legal system recognizes their deaths, and others, as the hate crimes they are.

Since the beginning of time, or, like, seven years ago, Snatch Game has been the standard by which all Drag Race seasons are judged. It separates the boys from the gurls, leaving those who can't schtick a landing wondering why they bothered to show up at all. After all, who can forget Pandora Boxx being robbed for her impeccable Carol Channing?

Meanwhile, Max's dead-on-arrival Sharon Needles sent her, rightfully, home packing.

Every queen that goes on Drag Race knows that Snatch Game is going to happen and most claim to prepare their impersonations for months. And yet here we are. The worst. Snatch Game. Ever.

The Bloom Is Off the Snatch

First off, all the tens and trophies to Bob the Drag Queen, who's the only contestant getting her pension since she actually decided to show up to work.

Twice. Bob's Crazy Eyes was inspired—take a note, Julianne Hough— but Black Carol Channing was a stroke of genius.

It was a foregone conclusion that Bob would win this week's challenge, and her performance belongs in the pantheon of great Snatch Game impersonations. But where was everybody else?

Thorgy's Michael Jackson was fun, but a distant second.

Both Robbie Turnt-her and Acid Betty chose great celebs—Diana Vreeland and Nancy Grace, respectively—but did absolutely nothing with them.

In fact, judge Carson Kressley's Nancy Grace overshadowed like 80% of the other queens.

Naomi Smalls was straight bridge-and-tunnel as New York (née Tiffany Pollard), Kim Chi's Kimmy Jong-un happened, and Derrick Barry's Britney was 2007 Britney: flat, one-note, and hard to watch.

And not for nothing, nowhere near as funny as season two also-ran Tatianna.

Yet, thanks to the competition, or lack thereof, Derrick is safe yet another day to underwhelm and get lost on her way trying to come for Bob.

Causing a Disappointment

As if Snatch Game wasn't bad enough, Ru practically gave these queens a gift for the runway: Madonna. Say what you want about Madame Ciccone—we've all earned that right by now—but mother has some iconic LQQKS. And yet, four queens decided to come through with a goddamn kimono. Four.

In a row. These hos were all in the same workroom and no one looked over and thought, "You know, I'm going to try something else"? And while "Nothing Really Matters" is a great song and video, if you're serving Ray of Light-era Madonna, one word: "Frozen."

And I'm not talking Elsa.

The only looks of note came from Acid Betty, going for an unexpected but wholly welcome "Bedtime Story" tease, and Bob, choosing a complete left-of-center but instantly recognizable latter day Madge look—the 2013 GLAAD Awards.

There's Now an App That Delivers PrEP

News & OpinionPrEPhivsextruvada-ap.jpgLes Fabian Brathwaite

PrEP has changed the way we talk and think about safe sex, to the chagrin of some. Though highly effective—but not completely—against the transmission of HIV, critics have slammed it for popularizing "Truvada whoredom" as well as a spike in other STIs among gay men. So this is probably going to rub them the wrong way: Nurx, a health technology startup based in San Francisco, has released an app that offers PrEP delivery, easy-peasy-one-two-threesy.

For everyone else, however, this is great news.

The CDC recommends 1.2 million people should be on Truvada—including almost 25% of all men who have sex with men—yet only 21,000 actually take the drug, for lack of awareness or access. Nurx, currently only available to Californians but with plans for expansion, removes some of the barriers to getting on PrEP.

According to a press release, this is how the app works:

1. The patient creates an account and fills out their health profile.

2. After completing the health profile, the user answers questions to determine whether they are a candidate for PrEP, and submits their request.

3. The information is then reviewed by a Nurx partner physician who will determine the eligibility of the patient for Truvada for PrEP.

4. Eligible users must then complete lab tests for HIV status and renal function prior to the prescription being issued. Also recommended will be lab tests for Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, pregnancy (for female users), chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis.

5. The physician will then assess the lab results and determine whether Truvada for PrEP can be prescribed, and if so, will be dispatched to the user’s address.

“Each year, more than 40,000 Americans are infected with HIV, however studies show that if taken daily, Truvada for PrEP can significantly reduce the chances of transmission of the virus," says Edvard Engesaeth, M.D., a co-founder of Nurx. "Our app makes Truvada more accessible for people who need this revolutionary drug."

We spoke with Hans Gangeskar, the CEO and other co-founder of Nurx, about the app, how it works, and how it's been received.

OUT: Do you have any plans to expand out of California?

Hans Gangeskar: We will be expanding nationwide and expect to launch in New York and Washington, D.C. in the next couple months.

O: What feedback have you received so far?

HG: The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. And why wouldn’t it be? We are making a revolutionary drug more accessible to those who need it.

Not surprisingly, the only negative feedback has been from Michael Weinstein of the AIDS Healthcare Foundation, who has a history of advocating against access to Truvada for PrEP. Weinstein slammed Nurx for allowing people to order Truvada as easy as “ordering pizza.” We don’t actually see a problem with making HIV prevention, and sexual health care, as easy as getting a date or ordering a pizza. Why not make it that easy?

A recent report in the Oxford Journal found PrEP to be as safe as taking Aspirin, however, access to this revolutionary drug is a problem for many at-risk users today. We are changing this.

O: What obstacles have you faced in getting this program off the ground?

HG: The main obstacles have been with telemedicine restrictions in certain states throughout the country. The laws for telemedicine consultations and prescriptions are different in each state.

O: Do you need insurance to use Nurx? If so, what would be the cost without insurance? How do you offer your service free of charge?

HG: A patient can either pay out-of-pocket or use their insurance to cover the cost of their prescription. We do not charge patients for the consultation with one of our doctors.

Unfortunately, the price for Truvada is extremely high, and can cost patients about $1,500 a month without health insurance. We can help people navigate various programs available to get PrEP paid for, like the Gilead Advancing Access program.

O: How do you hope Nurx will change the perception of PrEP?

HG: We hope to raise more awareness about PrEP and that it should be more widely accessible. Awareness and accessibility are two big reasons such a low number of people who should be on PrEP, actually take it.

Let's Talk About Reading

Something tells me Bob's been reading at a college level before she even knew what a book was, so she unsurprisingly won the mini-challenge as soon as RuPaul opened the library. However, Kim Chi's reference skills had Mama Ru gagging, as she reached into the archives to take a Paige out of season two.

But Naomi Smalls stopped relying on that body-ody-ody and showed the judges her fashion chops with her Vivienne Westwood-inspired Scarecrow couture. Meanwhile, Jazzy Jems is giving Naomi a run for her runway walk. I look forward to seeing one, if not both of them, in the next Marc Jacobs show.

Dating in the digital age has pretty much granted carte blanche to racism in the guise of "preference." The Daily Show with Trevor Noah sent correspondents Jessica Williams and Ronny Chieng out into the dating pool to wade through all that discriminatory muck.

OKCupid co-founder and author of the dating statistics book Dataclysm Christian Rudder tells Williams and Chieng that there exists "systemic racial bias" in "pretty much every dating site" he's observed.

African-American women and Asian men get the brunt of this bias: according to Rudder, 82% of non-black men have some sort of bias towards black women, while Asian men get the fewest messages and worst ratings of any group of guys.

"The media tells us what we think is beautiful," The Guardian's Zach Stafford explains. "When you live in a world that only shows white people being happy and in love and successful, even as people of color you're going to want that. My roommate was watching HBO's ode to the '70s, machismo and the music industry Vinyl the other day and while I was openly ignoring that stylized dick-measuring contest, something struck my ears. The show has great music, a mix of old and original material, but I assumed they had just dug up a long lost disco treasure I'd never heard before until Shazam told me it was none other than Alex Newell belting out "Kill the Lights."

Unsurprisingly, disco god and Daft Punk bff Nile Rodgers of Chic had a hand in the future dancefloor anthem, along with DJ Cassidy. But it's Newell, who I am convinced is the reincarnation of the late great Sylvester, who gives the track its true spark of life.

Girl Kicked Out of McDonald's Bathroom For Looking Like a Boy

News & OpiniontranstransgenderDiscriminationny richardson mcdonaldsLes Fabian Brathwaite

Ny Richardson, a 16-year-old from Yorkshire, England, claims she was kicked out of her local McDonald's after using the bathroom because the staff thought her gender didn't match the facilities she used.

“I ordered my food and left it with my girlfriend as I went to the toilet," Ny told Yahoo News."When I was in there, someone told me to get out and when I sat back down, the manager came over and told me that I needed to leave because I have been in the girls’ toilet."

Richardson protested and the manager asked the teenager to show her ID to prove her gender [Ed. note: C'mon, guys]. When she failed to produce any ID, the manager told her to leave and called the police.

Richardson says she was humiliated by the experience and calls the manager's attitude towards her "disgusting."

"I’m still angry about it now,” she added.

McDonald's claims Richardson was part of a disruptive group who were asked to leave for causing trouble, and police confirmed that they were called after a group of kids Ny was with got into an “altercation” with the staff.

"An altercation had ensued between the youths and staff after a customer complained a person they wrongly believed to be male was in the women’s toilets," Humberside Police said in a statement.

However, Richardson insists she didn't cause any trouble and that this isn't the first time she's faced discrimination due to her appearance.

“She is who she is and people need to accept that," said Ny's mother, Leigh Richardson. "She shouldn’t have to justify herself to anybody.”

Though this story took place across the pond, it perfectly illustrates the problems with "bathroom" bills like those in North Carolina, Mississippi, and now Tennessee. While they purport to protect women and children from "predators"—as if trans people are just dying to run obtrusively wild in the bathrooms of America—they really only promote intolerance.

Mart Crowley's The Boys in the Band is a product of its time. For better and for worse. To modern gay audiences, it might seem steeped in stereotypes and clichés—a group of self-loathing gay men getting drunk and cunting at each other at a birthday party. How revolutionary.

But it was. For audiences in 1968, this was the first view of homosexual life, as portrayed by a homosexual writer. These gay men weren't killers, or pedophiles, and they didn't die before the curtain closed—as was often the fate of queer characters in plays, movies, and on TV.

Crowley worked as an assistant to actress Natalie Wood, whom he met on the set of 1961's Splendor in the Grass, and her husband Robert Wagner. Wood, an ally among the Hollywood gays, helped Crowley produceThe Boys in the Band, which debuted off-Broadway on April 14, 1968 at Theater Four.

Audiences were reportedly shocked by the play and its overtly gay themes, but The Boys in the Band proved a success and ran for over 1,000 performances.

The play focuses on a birthday party for Harold, an acerbic and acid-tongue queen wallowing in booze and self-pity over losing his youthful looks and takes out his frustrations on his six friends including Michael, the party's host. Michael's going through psychoanalysis over the guilt he feels about being gay. Michael's allegedly straight friend Alan is also in attendance, along with a hustler only known as Cowboy, who is one of Harold's presents.

Harold and his friends trade barbs and insults and have a good old kiki, until things take a turn for the worse, à la Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, thanks to a seemingly innocent but ultimately malicious party game. Each man must call someone in their life or from their past and tell them he loves them—a bad idea in general, made only worse when drunk. The gloves come off and everyone ends up in a pool of their own pity, except straight Alan, who calls his wife.

It's all a little much, but where the play was most successful was in its portrayal of gay men as human beings, not monsters, with actual thoughts and feelings, as well as victims of society's negative views of them. It may have also played an early hand in the victim narrative that plagues so many stories about gay men, even a full decade before the AIDS epidemic.

Still, The Boys in the Band was able to penetrate (pun intended) the mainstream, and in 1970 it was adapted into a film directed by William Friedkin—who's 1979 film Cruising is basically the cinematic equivalent of a hate crime.

The Boys in the Band, while not perfect, is a landmark for helping to change the way homosexuality is perceived and depicted—it's suggested (if not necessarily required) reading/viewing if only to understand gay life pre-Stonewall.

A Canton, Ohio couple preparing for their nuptials got a nasty little reminder that while they might be free to marry each other, they aren't free of people's ignorant bullshit. With less than a month to go to their wedding, Keith and Chad  received an ominous letter in the mail in response to one of their invites.

From WFSB:

douchey rsvp

Don't you hate it when people go out of their way to be just the worst? Like, a simple "return to sender" would have sufficed. And that sarcastic "LOVE" in the corner—who delights that much in being human garbage? Well, whomever it is, Keith and Chad won't let them rain on their matrimonial parade.

"I never even thought about canceling and quite frankly, other than our initial shock of the letter this made us both want to do it more," Keith said. He and Chad have been together for nine years.

"It's something we waited a long time for, we honestly never thought we'd be able to do it," Chad added. "This letter we received yesterday is more of a reason to move forward with it. Love will win in the end, that's what it comes down to,

Proving that not everyone is awful for no reason, Canton's New Vision United Church of Christ is throwing the couple a card shower and letters of support can be sent to the following address:

Upon the release of the trailer for Garry Marshall's latest all-star holiday "film" Mother's Day, the internet heaved a collective "C'mon, wig!" at Julia Roberts, who's blunt bob-and-a-bang immediately stole the show.

Well, all that wigging out didn't escape Julia's notice.

“I’ve heard a lot about my look in the movie,” Roberts told People at the film’s L.A. premiere. “There’s a lot of interpretation about my look. I wish I could’ve put that much thought into it. It was kind of, like, quick putting it together.”

So, wait, Mother's Day didn't warrant a deep analysis of character and detailed attempts to bring said character to life through the careful selection of a wig that told not only a story but foreshadowed things to come? Quelle surprise!

And that wig was literally just hanging out in Julia Roberts's closet for the past 17 years since she last used it in Notting Hill?

Rom-com aficionados may recall that JRo starred in the 1999 film alongside Hugh Grant as a world famous actress who at the end of the day was just a girl standing in front of a boy asking her to love him. And in one of Notting Hill's movies-within-a-movie, Helix, Julia donned the now infamous wig as an impossibly chic astronaut.

Say what you will, Julia Roberts, but that wig was no happy accident—this has drag queen stunt written all over it. Right under that bang.

Tracy Morgan, who is no the first person when you think of "ally" especially after a homophobic rant in one of his comedy routines in 2011, has joined other pro-LGBT entertainers and companies by boycotting states with discriminatory laws.

According to The Daily Beast:

Morgan was set to perform at the Horseshoe Tunica Hotel & Casino in Robinsonville on April 29, as part of his Picking Up the Pieces comeback tour following a deadly car accident that left him with traumatic brain injuries.

Last month, Mississippi passed a bill to protect individuals who choose to deny services to LGBT people based on their religious beliefs, as well as those who refuse to recognize the gender identity of trans people.

Morgan came under fire in 2011 for a routine he performed in Nashville, Tennessee in which he claimed that being gay was a "choice" and that if his son was gay, he'd stab him to death. The comedian quickly offered an apology and his rant was later parodied on an episode of 30 Rock.

Perhaps indicative of how far he'd come since the infamous Nashville incident, and his traumatic car accident, Morgan starred in a parody of the Oscar-winning trans drama The Danish Girl during this year's Academy Awards that was actually hilarious and inoffensive.

"Tracy did not make this decision lightly," says a press release. "He very much looks forward to rescheduling his tour dates in the area after the ‘Protecting Freedom of Conscience from Government Discrimination Act’ is either repealed or heavily amended."

Not gonna lie to ya, the whole Game of Thrones ship passed me by. I have no idea what's happening, who's who, or what the fuss is all about, but one thing I think we can all agree on is handsome men making out on TV.

GoT stars Iwan Rheon and Alfie Allen, who play Ramsay Bolton and Theon Greyjoy (respectively), were on Jimmy Kimmel Live and since they're apparently enemies on the show, Jimmy wanted them to just hug it out for the viewers at home.

"You know what would be a really nice thing and sell this whole idea that this is actually acting," the late night host said. "We've seen so much unpleasantness between the two of you, if you were just to hug between the two of you, I think it would be really sweet."

And 'twas. 'Twas also kinda hot.

Next thing you know, everyone's hugging their cares away and it's great. Check out the GoT love below, which also includes an exclusive clip from season six if you're about that life:
